Police investigating the murder of a 36 year old Comber man have made another two arrests.

36 year old Philip Strickland was found shot dead in a car on Quarry Road near Comber on Wednesday. The following day Police arrested a 54 year old man along with his two sons aged, 25 and 26 and later on Thursday night, a 19 year old mand and a 19 year old woman were also arrested.

Police are appealing for information regarding what they described as a “viscious murder”.

Mr Strickland, from East Belfast, was murdered around 9pm on Wednesday evening and found in the front of a car. A number of passing motorists stopped and tried to give first aid to the victim who was then taken to hospital but pronounced dead.

Detective Superintendent Brian Hanna said police were following a number of lines of inquiry. “It was a vicious murder and will impact on the community of Comber, and we recognise that,” he said. “That is why we are working in tandem with our uniformed partners to ensure that the people in Comber, who are not used to this level of crime, get the level of confidence and support from the police.”

Road closedThe A20 at Main Street, Greyabbey and Portaferry Road will be closed to through traffic between the mini roundabout and Ballybryan Road from 7pm on Friday 13th January to 6am on Monday 16th January continuously. It will also be closed from 6am to 2pm on Sunday 22nd January.

Both road closures are necessary in relation to an N.I. Water Flood Alleviation Scheme.

The alternative route via the Portaferry Road, Innishargy Road, Kircubbin Road A2 Springvale Road, Greyabbey Road, Ballywalter Road, Church Street and Main Street shall be signposted.

PSNI electronic likeness of man wanted for burglary in Scrabo Road area.

Detectives from CID in Newtownards are appealing for information following a distraction type burglary in the Scrabo Road area of the town on Tuesday, 3 January 2012. They have released an electronic likeness of a man they want to speak to in connection with the incident.

At approximately 1.00pm it was reported that two men claiming to represent the Water Board called to the home of an elderly lad…y and gained access to her property.  The men made off with a sum of money. The elderly lady was not injured during this incident, however she was left badly shaken.

Newtownards CID would like to hear from anyone who thinks this electronic likeness resembles anyone they know, and they would also like to hear from anyone with information about the crime. Detectives have launched a murder enquiry following the fatal shooting of a 36 year old man at the Ballydrain Road, Comber last night (Wed 11th Jan). We would like to speak to anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area between 8pm and 9.15pm. We believe that a number of vehicles made off from the scene along the Ballydrain Road in the direction of Lisbane.
