Reporting anti-social behaviour in the Ards

Anti-social behavioue takes many forms, and what may be acceptable to certain people, may be a real nuisance to others.

Effective solutions to anti-social behaviour are not the responsibility of a single agency or organisation. Local residents and tenants, Local Authorities, victims and witnesses, Police, Social Services, businesses and many other groups and individuals have a role and a responsibility to tackle anti-social behaviour.

Only by working together will we tackle and make a real and lasting impact on our community.

Ards Borough Council and the Police Service of Northern Ireland Ards District Command Unit have combined resources to reduce the level of anti-social behaviour in the Ards Borough.

An Anti-Ssocial Behaviour Team consisting of 3 Council Officers will now work full time along with Community Police Officers in order to investigate reports and to determine if offences are being committed. The overall aim is to reduce the level of anti-social behaviour in the Borough.

Reporting Anti-Social Behaviour.

Officers from the Anti-Social Behaviour Team and Community Policing Units work various day and evening shifts. If your report is an emergency please dial 999 and report in the normal way.

If your report is not an emergency but requires attendance by response police please telephone the Police Non Emergency Number 0845 600 8000 where your call can be prioritised.

For non emergency reports you can choose to call either your local Community Policing Unit or the Anti-Social Behaviour Team who will normally provide a combined effort to resolve the problem. Contact details are provided at the bottom of this article.

What can I expect?

If you make a report directly to the Ards Anti-Social Behaviour Team wou will asked to provide your name, address and telephone number/ These details are retained and used either to gather further information from you or to inform you of progress.

In return you can expect your report to be treated seriously as we fully realise that anti-social behaviour has an impact on your quality of life. We will gather information to determine if any offences have been committed and may refer the matter to another agency if appropriate.

A case officer will be appointed to investigate your report and you will be notified of the outcome as soon as possible.

Ards Borough Council provides a complaints procedure should you be dissatisfied about the way in which your report has been dealt with.
